This is usually used for individuals that want to see the results very quickly or for people with heavily stained teeth that will otherwise require a long period of treatment to achieve the desired teeth whitening effect.
The take home kits involves an examination by a Dentist first to establish if there is any risks in providing teeth whitening for each case, custom made bleeching /whitening trays and whitening gel. the procedure is done under by the patient at home but under the supervision of a dentist. The take home teeth whitening kits treatment duration usually is between 3-4 weeks, while the in-surgery teeth whitening system yeild results with in an one hour. A word of cautionOver-the-counter kits sold in the UK are not recommended as they usually contain only a small concentration of hydrogen peroxide (the whitening product). The legal limit in the UK is 0.1% of hydrogen peroxide and effective bleaching products need to have about 3.6%. Also, some contain mild acids and others are abrasive. This can cause ulcers and damage to the gums and worst case damage the enamel if not used properly. We Use 6% balanced system in the practice, the system has been desgined to reduce sensitivity and reduce the effect of deydration that nomally occurs with teeth whitening.
